A WALK in the park not only makes you feel good, it may even help you live longer. A recent study of more than 2,200 senior citizens in Japan discovered a strong link between longevity and easy access to walkable green spaces such as tree-lined streets and parks—a correlation that held true regardless of variables such as age, sex, income, mobility and marital status. The researchers recommend that urban planners and developers make accessible green spaces a higher priority in the future, particularly in densely populated cities such as Tokyo, where they conducted the study.
