No Child Left Inside Act 2009 Introduced on Earth Day
Legislation would advance environmental education in our nation's schools
Today Senator Jack Reed (D-RI) and Congressman John Sarbanes (D-MD) will introduce the No Child Left Inside Act of 2009 to advance environmental education in our nation's schools. The legislation is strongly supported by the nearly 1,300 members of the No Child Left Inside Coalition, spearheaded by the Chesapeake Bay Foundation.
Kevin Coyle, Vice President for Education and Training at the National Wildlife Federation, said:
"We welcome the introduction of the No Child Left Inside Act by Senator Jack Reed and Congressman John Sarbanes. Hands-on environmental education helps kids learn about the world around them, a world they will inherit and will need to take care of. It's good for their academic performance and hands-on environmental education connects children with nature."
"National Wildlife Federation has been a key member of the No Child Left Inside coalition which is led by the Chesapeake Bay Foundation. Nearly 1,300 organizations belong to the NCLI coalition, representing more than 45 million Americans."
"There is significant support for environmental education in our nation's schools, as underscored by the overwhelmingly, bipartisan vote on the No Child Left Inside Act in the House last September. Reintroduction of this bill underscores the widespread support that America's leaders, families, and educators have for hands-on environmental education."
"In addition to the many academic and conservation benefits of environmental education, business leaders increasingly believe that an environmentally literate workforce is critical to their long-term success."
