The National Wildlife Federation's Eco-Schools USA program partners with The Global Learning and Observations to Benefit the Environment (GLOBE) Program to integrate school sustainability and Earth systems observations, data collection, and action to protect and conserve wildlife and wild places.

The GLOBE Program is an interagency project sponsored by NASA and the National Science Foundation, with support from NOAA and the Department of State, and implemented by a cooperative agreement with University Corporation of Atmospheric Research (UCAR).

Citizen Science in the Classroom

The GLOBE Program provides students with the opportunity to engage in citizen science through a variety of Earth system protocols. Using an inquiry-based, hands-on design to develop students’ ability to use systems thinking, students scaffold their learning through the Eco-Schools USA program and apply their GLOBE knowledge to the Seven Step Framework. Student action teams perform environmental audits, design and create action plans, and work with the community to solve local, real-world environmental issues.

Join GLOBE
GLOBE invites participation from formal and informal educators, and citizen scientists, to take, report, and analyze environmental measurements.

GLOBE Learning Standards
GLOBE partners have mapped GLOBE protocols and learning activities to their specific state—and, in some cases, city—standards.

U.S. Regional Student Research Symposia
Students from across the United States have the opportunity to come together at one of six face-to-face regional Student Research Symposia (SRS) to share the results of field investigations using GLOBE program protocols or data from the GLOBE database. SRS are held in the spring of each year. Travel funding is available.

GLOBE International Virtual Student Science Symposium
Each year, GLOBE hosts an international Virtual Science Symposium using an entirely online format. Students can share research, earn virtual badges, get feedback from a team of STEM professionals and discuss their research with other students and the GLOBE community.

GLOBE Across the Curriculum
GLOBE provides students with a more integrated view of the various subjects they study and supports curricula interconnections in all areas.
