"Our public lands are a birthright of all Americans and President Obama continues to build a strong conservation legacy through their expansion and protection. Today's designations demonstrate the Antiquities Act is as vital as ever in preserving some of our nation’s most important historic and natural treasures – and it's crucial that we keep the act intact and in place.
"In particular, permanent protection for Basin and Range will preserve priority sage-grouse habitat at a critical time when we're all working hard to recover this iconic bird and avoid the need for further protections under the Endangered Species Act. But protecting Basin and Range will benefit much more than just the sage-grouse – other big game species like elk and mule deer also depend on this same habitat, making permanent protection for Basin and Range a true win for wildlife and sportsmen and women alike."
