"A historic opportunity to reform the badly-broken Toxic Substances Control Act"
Washington, DC (May 23, 2016) – Rep. Frank Pallone (D-NJ), Ranking Member of the House Energy & Commerce Committee, House Minority Leader Pelosi (D-CA), and House Minority Whip Steny Hoyer (D-MD) announced today their support for final passage of the bipartisan, bicameral deal to modernize the 40-year-old Toxic Substances Control Act.
Collin O’Mara, president and CEO of the National Wildlife Federation said today:
“Thanks to strong leadership shown by leaders on both sides of the aisle, Americans will have much greater confidence that the chemicals that they buy and use are safe as we seize this historic opportunity to reform the badly-broken Toxic Substances Control Act – a chance that might not come along again for years to come. A broad range of members from both houses as well as outside stakeholders – including the National Wildlife Federation and the U.S. Chamber of Commerce – have come together to say: the time is now; we must update this law.
“As a former state regulator, I believe strongly that this is a very good bill that, while not perfect, has progressed significantly from the earlier House and Senate bills and represents a marked improvement for wildlife, sportsmen and public health over current law. The National Wildlife Federation urges all members of Congress to support this legislation and we look forward to its enactment into law very soon.”
