WASHINGTON D.C. — Later today, President Donald Trump plans to sign an executive order calling for a review of the upcoming round of fuel efficiency and climate pollution improvements for cars and light trucks.

Collin O’Mara, president and chief executive officer of the National Wildlife Federation, said today: 

“Today's announcement is a step backwards for American consumers, American innovators, American workers, and America's wildlife. American consumers, including sportsmen and all outdoor enthusiasts, will spend thousands of dollars more buying gas rather than supporting local businesses. American innovators who are developing next generation engines and vehicles are being encouraged to discontinue decades of American progress on fuel efficiency. 

“American autoworkers and supply-chain manufacturers are likely to lose out on building that next-generation technology. America’s wildlife, wild places, and public health, will be threatened by more energy extraction, dirtier air and water, worsening climate change, and more oil spills. Reversing course on America's leadership in auto innovation and manufacturing will weaken our economy, take money out of families’ pockets, increase air pollution, and damage America’s outdoor heritage.”
