The National Wildlife Federation and Teacher Created Resources Announce First-ever Ranger Rick Classroom Reading Program for Spring 2017

“Ranger Rick’s Reading Adventures” Offers Enhanced Instruction in Reading, Writing, and Science

Reston, VA and Garden Grove, CA – The National Wildlife Federation, America's largest conservation organization, today announced a new partnership with the leading publisher of supplementary educational materials, Teacher Created Resources, to deliver the first-ever Ranger Rick reading, writing, and science program to educators, schools, and districts across the U.S. Through the engaging world of wildlife ambassador Ranger Rick raccoon and his friends, teachers and students can utilize both content and photography from the award-winning Ranger Rick magazine to enhance teaching and learning across reading, writing, and science for students in grades 2 through 5.  Ranger Rick’s Reading Adventures is now available to classrooms nationwide.

Ranger Rick’s Reading Adventures was created in accordance with national reading, writing, and science standards, and is available in 3 kits (levels A, B, C) that correspond to grade bands 2–3, 3–4, and 4–5, respectively.

Each kit includes:

60 nonfiction readers (6 copies of 10 titles)
36 fiction and nonfiction adventure cards (6 copies of 6 titles)
240-page Teacher Resource book with standards-based reading, writing, and science activities
CD with reproducible activity pages and correlations
Each standards-based kit provides cross-disciplinary supplemental materials that are visually engaging to students, and provide a unique mix of reading, writing, and science interwoven into lessons that tie into the curriculum, making it easier for educators to bring both fiction and nonfiction content to life.

Ranger Rick’s Reading Adventures provides teachers with step-by-step reading, writing, and science lessons that are fun, effective, and flexible enough to work in any classroom. Lessons and activities are presented in a way that allows teachers to easily and effectively customize the program. In addition, various scaffolding tools are provided throughout each kit to address the needs of all students. Lessons introduce teaching strategies, which collectively support different learning modalities, and include: pre-, during, and post-reading activities, graphic organizers for writing and reading, and field notes (vocabulary and content review). Students will learn essential comprehension skills: from oral fluency, to analysis of reading content, to critical thinking. Complete with formative assessments, educators can customize the materials to meet the needs of their students throughout the lifecycle of the lesson plans.

To complement the educational materials, Teacher Created Resources has developed classroom decorative products that bring the curriculum materials to life and help develop a sense of community in the classroom.  Visit www.teachercreated.com to see the full line of Ranger Rick-themed products.
