WASHINGTON – Today, the Environmental Protection Agency announced it will delay the implementation of the Clean Water Rule, which was finalized in 2015. Collin O’Mara, president and CEO of the National Wildlife Federation, made the following statement:
“Today’s action is an unlawful attack on the drinking water of more than 100 million Americans. Once again, the administration has defied administrative law by ramming a fatally-flawed rule through in a matter of weeks with no meaningful opportunity for public comment and no rational basis for the delay. The administration has left us no choice but to defend America’s waterways in court.”
“The American public wants certainty that the water flowing from their taps will always be safe to drink. We need clarity that our rivers and streams will remain free of pollution and full of fish. We want certainty that our wetlands will continue to protect our communities from floods and will continue to provide habitat for migrating birds. The Clean Water Rule provided that certainty and today’s action takes it away.”
