Interior Must Take Inspector General Report Seriously

WASHINGTON, D.C. – The Interior Department’s Inspector General issued a report today critical of the process and documentation of the reassignment of senior executives.

Collin O’Mara, president and CEO of the National Wildlife Federation, said today:

“The Inspector General has raised important questions about the appropriateness of the way in which almost three dozen senior career staff were summarily reassigned in early 2017 after the secretary’s arrival. It is critical that the expertise of career staff not be devalued, especially Native Americans and career staff of color who have been disproportionately impacted by the changes. We encourage the Department to take the concerns raised by the IG seriously and ensure that sound science and career experts are informing the decision-making process."
