Washington, D.C.— The National Wildlife Federation, America’s largest conservation organization with 51 state and territorial affiliates and more than six million members, today announced that Mike Saccone will serve as Associate Vice President for Communications. 

Saccone brings a decade of bipartisan political communications expertise to the National Wildlife Federation. He served as communications director for Sen. Mark Udall and the Colorado Attorney General’s office, and most recently was communications director for the Keystone Policy Center. Previously, he was a reporter with the Daily Sentinel of Grand Junction (Colorado).

“Mike combines an outsider’s perspective on what Americans really care about with an insider’s understanding of how Capitol Hill works. The National Wildlife Federation’s work isn’t about scoring political points – it’s about making real progress for wildlife, clean air and water, and protecting and ensuring access to America’s public lands,” said Collin O’Mara, president and CEO of the National Wildlife Federation.

Saccone will lead the National Wildlife Federation’s communications team, with staffers at NWF National Advocacy Center in Washington, DC, and NWF Headquarters in Reston, Virginia, as well as communications staff in regional centers across the nation. He’ll help implement the National Wildlife Federation’s overarching strategy to advance key priorities established in its new strategic plan, including increasing America’s wildlife populations, improving federal management of public lands, encouraging conservation on private lands, and restoring America’s waterways.

“I believe the National Wildlife Federation’s work to engage more Americans in conservation has never been more important, relevant, and necessary than today. I am looking forward to bringing my experience as a communicator, journalist and outdoor enthusiast to the National Wildlife Federation team and in support of its work,” said Saccone.
