Washington, DC – The National Wildlife Federation urged the U.S. Senate today to reject the U.S. House of Representatives effort to saddle the latest 2019 “minibus” — which includes the FY19 Interior, Environment, and Related Agencies appropriations bill — with harmful provisions that will undermine protections for wildlife, water and public health.
“It is entirely inappropriate to use the appropriations process for the EPA and the Department of the Interior to roll back fundamental safeguards like the Clean Water Act, the Clean Air Act, and the Endangered Species Act,” said Laura Daniel Davis, the National Wildlife Federation’s Vice President of Conservation Strategy. “Attacks on protections for our nation’s waters, wildlife and public health are unpopular, unwise and unrelated to the task at hand. For example, this bill would repeal the Clean Water Rule, which protects smaller streams and wetlands that are sources of drinking water for one third of all Americans. We urge the Senate to pass a clean, focused appropriations bill on a bipartisan basis.”
