WASHINGTON, D.C. — The National Wildlife Federation is proud to announce the winners of the 47th annual National Wildlife® Magazine Photo Contest, with this year's Grand Prize going to a Florida photographer, David Turko, for his stunning image capturing a bobcat fleeing a pond with its catch of the day.

This prestigious contest drew more than 23,000 entries from across the globe. The 2018 entries painted a vivid picture of wildlife and wild places, from avian artistry to underwater majesty to the struggle and beauty of life on the edge. Each photograph celebrates the power and beauty of nature and inspires its protection. Modest entry fees help support the National Wildlife Federation’s efforts to protect wildlife and the invaluable lands they call home, and donated images further help the Federation raise funds for its important conservation work.

This year’s winners hail from seven states — Alaska, California, Florida, Illinois, Indiana, Oregon and West Virginia — and six different nations including the United States, Canada, England, Hungary, Kenya and Kuwait. Whether lifelong professionals or avid amateurs, all winners display a love of wildlife and an appreciation of how photography can help bring nature to life in a way that inspires others to take action and protect it, both at home and abroad.

We’re pleased to award a grand prize as well as first and second place in each of the following seven categories: Mammals, Birds, Baby Animals, Other Wildlife, Backyard Habitats, People in Nature, and Landscapes and Plants.

The National Wildlife Federation congratulates all 15 winners and thanks everyone who participated in the 2018 contest. We also encourage all nature photographers — both amateur and professional — to enter the 48^th annual contest opening January 16, 2019.
