Washington, D.C. — A series of bills introduced today to block offshore oil and gas drilling — across the Atlantic, Pacific and Arctic Coast — underscore the concerns states and policymakers have with the Department of the Interior’s unilateral approach to energy development.
“Republican and Democratic politicians from coastal states stand united in opposition to the Trump Administration’s proposal for unfettered offshore oil and gas drilling,” said Collin O’Mara, president and CEO of National Wildlife Federation. “The bills introduced today will protect our oceans and marine wildlife — which support tourism, outdoor recreation, and fishing — and contribute billions of dollars of economic impact to coastal communities. We urge the Trump Administration to reject earlier proposals to expand offshore drilling as it finalizes its planned Outer Continental Shelf Oil and Gas Leasing Program.”
