Washington, DC (March 11, 2019) — The president’s budget makes drastic cuts to important programs that protect our nation’s waters. Jessie Ritter, director of water resources and coastal policy for the National Wildlife Federation commented on the proposal:
“With this budget, the Administration has demonstrated once again a lack of appreciation for efforts to keep drinking water clean, our coasts resilient, and our environment healthy. These deep cuts to important programs across federal agencies will imperil the places we love, including America’s Everglades. We urge Congress to reject these cuts and instead to fully fund the programs that restore important ecosystems and protect clean water for all Americans. That includes providing $200 million annually to the Army Corps of Engineers for Everglades restoration efforts. A sustained investment at this level is necessary to ensure the agency keeps pace with the State of Florida’s investments in recovery of this national treasure.”
