WASHINGTON, D.C. — The National Wildlife Federation joined the growing wave of civil rights, conservation, and community organizations calling for justice in the wake of Ahmaud Arbery’s murder. Collin O’Mara, president and CEO of the National Wildlife Federation, issued the following statement:

“Our nation and justice system are fundamentally broken when black, brown, and marginalized Americans cannot leave their homes or even go for a jog without fearing for their lives. Ahmaud Arbery’s murder is the latest tragedy and should be a shock to our national consciousness. The National Wildlife Federation stands in solidarity and demands justice for the constant stream of deaths of black men and women. We will not rest until all Americans can safely enjoy the outdoors without fear of violence.

"None of our work in support of people and wildlife will matter if everyone cannot safely go outdoors, none of our work to restore our public lands will matter if everyone cannot safely make it to the trailhead, and none of our work to secure cleaner air and water matters when black men and women are dying in the streets.”
