LANSING, Mich. – The National Wildlife Federation issued the following statement regarding news that Gov. Gretchen Whitmer is finalizing her review of Enbridge Energy’s compliance with the Line 5 easement:
“The best way to protect against a potential Line 5 oil spill is to remove the risk entirely by shutting down the pipeline without further delay,” said Beth Wallace, Great Lakes Freshwater campaigns manager for the National Wildlife Federation. “We believe the Governor has ample information to revoke this easement so we can protect our Great Lakes. The facts clearly show Enbridge Energy puts its massive oil profits over protecting our Great Lakes time and time again, which is why we are urging the governor to take immediate action and revoke the Line 5 easement once and for all.”
