WASHINGTON, D.C. — Reports that Pebble Mine proponents pushed for the project through fraudulent means and undue influence show why the Trump Administration should once and for all axe the proposed Pebble Mine in Alaska. The mine, which has attracted high-profile and bipartisan opposition, would threaten critical wildlife habitat for salmon and other species throughout Bristol Bay.
“This is as swampy as it gets. Pebble Mine has always been the wrong mine in the wrong place — and the only reason it’s still being discussed at all is a combination of fraudulent documents, corrupt deals, campaign contributions, and duplicitous doublespeak of some officials,” said Collin O’Mara, president and CEO of the National Wildlife Federation. “The science could not be more clear: America’s most productive salmon fishery is simply too important to risk — and it’s time to shut down Pebble Mine once and for all.”
