President Trump 'Must Be Removed from Office' for Inciting Insurrection, Attempting to Overthrow Election

'Without Functioning, Secure Democratic Institutions, We Simply Cannot Advance Our Mission for People, Wildlife'

WASHINGTON, D.C. — The National Wildlife Federation, America’s largest wildlife conservation organization, called for the removal of President Donald Trump from office for the incitement of the violent insurrection at the U.S. Capitol:

"President Trump must be removed from office for inciting an insurrection by a violent mob attempting to overturn the lawful results of a democratic presidential election. The peaceful transfer of power is the foundation of our democratic republic. It is a bedrock American value that transcends party or ideology," said Collin O'Mara, president and CEO of the National Wildlife Federation. "All who abetted the coup attempt last week and those who continue to seek to undermine our democratic institutions, fueled by racism, white supremacy, and anti-Semitism, must be held accountable. Without functioning and secure democratic institutions, we simply cannot advance our mission for people or wildlife.

"We must confront the systemic and institutional racism that allowed this violent mob, comprised nearly entirely of white men and women, some of whom were armed, to storm our Capitol unharmed and assault the public servants within it, compared with the beatings and mass arrests experienced repeatedly by Black, Latinx, Asian, and Indigenous peoples and white allies non-violently protesting injustice.

"We honor the heroism of Officer Eugene Goodman and everyone who put their lives on the line to defend our democracy from insurrection. The injuries inflicted by the mob, including the tragic loss of life, simply should not have occurred.

"If President Trump refuses to resign or Vice President Pence does not initiate proceedings under the 25th Amendment, the National Wildlife Federation urges all Representatives to vote for proposed Article of Impeachment for Incitement of Insurrection and urges all Senators to vote for conviction."
