WASHINGTON, D.C. — The bipartisan vote to restore the Environmental Protection Agency’s ability to protect people and wildlife alike from the threats posed by methane emissions is good news for public health, the environment, and the climate.
“Methane gas is a powerful climate super-pollutant, accelerating changes that are already imperiling people and wildlife on the front lines,” said Shannon Heyck-Williams, director of climate and energy policy at the National Wildlife Federation. “Congress is making way for restoring common-sense limits to oil and gas methane pollution. This is an infrastructure opportunity that helps put Americans back to work, along with the many other needed investments in zero-carbon energy, clean manufacturing, and natural resource restoration. Together, these steps will help us meet our 50 percent emissions reduction goal under the Paris Agreement. Every step by Congress and the White House matters. The world is watching.”
