WASHINGTON, D.C. — The Biden Administration’s decision to reassess recent changes to how the Endangered Species Act is implemented is welcome news that will ensure the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service is leveraging this foundational conservation law to address America’s wildlife crisis.

“America’s wildlife are in crisis, with one-third of species at heightened risk of extinction. This reassessment comes at a critical moment, and we are committed to working with the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service to ensure that the Endangered Species Act helps not only protect species on the brink of extinction, but also recovers and restores imperiled wildlife to healthy population levels,” said Collin O’Mara, president and CEO of the National Wildlife Federation. “But administrative action is not enough. We urge Congress to pass the bipartisan Recovering America’s Wildlife Act, which will save thousands of both at-risk and listed species through collaborative, proactive, on-the-ground recovery efforts, and to increase direct funding for Endangered Species Act recovery plans.”
