A photographer captures the penetrating gaze of a Galápagos short-eared owl
THE MESMERIZING GAZE of a Galápagos short-eared owl caught the eye of amateur photographer Erin Connor when she spotted the ground-nesting bird along a trail in the Galápagos Islands. “It looked like one of those little Furbies that talk to kids,” she says. “It was so cute!” Unperturbed, the owl sat still until Connor moved on. An avid traveler, she has roamed from Alaska to Africa and New Zealand photographing wildlife. Though a fan of all creatures, Connor confesses, “I have a thing for birds.”
