Pledge Summary

As a part of the Village's "Growing to Greenness" strategy, the Mayor and the Village Board of Trustees have appointed residents and local volunteers to the Sustainability Commission. This Commission is directly involved in making the Village an environmentally sound and sustainable place to live. The Village is proud to participate in the annual Mayor' Monarch Pledge as it provides us a way to educate residents and business owners about Monarchs and preservation of their habitats here in our community.

Communications and Convening ▸

Issue a Proclamation to raise awareness about the decline of the monarch butterfly and the species’ need for habitat.
Engage with gardening leaders and partners (e.g., Master Naturalists, Master Gardeners, Nature Centers, Native Plant Society Chapters , other long-standing and influential community leaders) to support monarch butterfly conservation.

Program and Demonstration Gardens ▸

Plant or maintain a monarch and pollinator-friendly demonstration garden at City Hall or another prominent or culturally significant community location.
