Pledge Summary

The Village of Deerfield is a community located in northeastern Illinois with a population of roughly 19,000. Mayor Shapiro has committed to saving the monarch butterfly population and other pollinators by signing the Mayors' Monarch Pledge. Mayor Shapiro is supportive of growing the native gardens and is engaging with residents to continue building community native gardens.

Interactive Native Planting Locations Map

Deerfield created an interactive map using GIS to show the native planting locations throughout the Village. Currently, four acres of turf have been converted to native gardens with an additional five acres planned for 2023.

  • Issue a Proclamation to raise awareness about the decline of the monarch butterfly and the species’ need for habitat.

  • Display educational signage at monarch gardens and pollinator habitat.
