Pledge Summary

The City of Mountain View is excited to participate in its second year of the Mayor's Monarch Pledge and plans to build upon the efforts from our first year by maintaining and expanding pollinator habitat, continuing our Seed Library Program, and adopting the Shoreline Wildlife Management Plan that incorporates efforts for helping monarchs and pollinators through maintenance practices and enhancement projects at our regional wildlife refuge and recreation area, Shoreline.

Action Items Committed for 2023

Communications and Convening

  • Launch or maintain a public communication effort to encourage residents to plant monarch gardens at their homes or in their neighborhoods. (If you have community members who speak a language other than English, we encourage you to also communicate in that language; Champion Pledges must communicate in that language.)

Program and Demonstration Gardens

  • Add or maintain native milkweed and nectar producing plants in community gardens.
  • Host or support a native seed or plant sale, giveaway or swap.

Systems Change

  • Integrate monarch butterfly conservation into the city’s Park Master Plan, Sustainability Plan, Climate Resiliency Plan or other city plans.
