Pledge Summary

The Village of Palos Park is a unique and active community in the Southwest suburbs of Chicago. Residents enjoy a good balance of business, community events, great trails and outdoor recreation nestled in the midst of dense wooded land. The Village is a wonderful place to live and raise a family in a natural environment and the ecosystem is encouraged and respected. The Village has had butterfly and pollinator gardens for several years, but more recently, plans are underway to add more in the area.

Action Items Committed for 2021

Communications and Convening

  • Issue a Proclamation to raise awareness about the decline of the monarch butterfly and the species’ need for habitat.

Program and Demonstration Gardens

  • Host or support a native seed or plant sale, giveaway or swap.
  • Display educational signage at monarch gardens and pollinator habitat.

Systems Change

  • Direct city property managers to consider the use of native milkweed and nectar plants at city properties where possible.
