The sign for butterfly is made by linking your thumbs and crossing your two hands in front of you at the wrists with your palms facing you. Bend your hands at the knuckles to make the butterfly flap its wings.

Monarch migration routes and overwintering sites are located primarily within the lower 48 U.S. states, Canada and Mexico and as such, the milkweed species NWF distributes are not native to Alaska, Hawaii, U.S. Island Territories or outside the monarch's range in North America.
Photos submitted will not be used by NWF publicly unless we express interest and request formal permission for photo owner. You reserve the right to share photos on social media. Read our Official Contest Rules.
