Yes! From the condition of your street to the health of your community or the local economy, your life is impacted by the decisions of local and state officials. In local elections, your voice is even more powerful in determining the outcome because fewer votes are being cast overall. In races for School Board, city council, county board, or state legislature, the people running for office are your neighbors, friends, or could even be you! Don’t sleep on the vital local races that help shape our communities.
Primaries are elections often held in the spring or summer to decide which candidates will compete in the general election. The rules and dates for voting in the primaries differ in each state. Visit your state’s voter portal for more information.
Often overlooked, Congressional midterm elections are held halfway between the presidential elections. ALL members of the U.S. House of Representatives are up for re-election during midterms as well as one third of Senate seats. The Congressional midterms will be held this year on November 3. It's illegal for anyone to try to stop eligible citizens from voting. If you experience any issue, ask if there is a provisional ballot option and immediately report the problem to the Election Protection Hotline (866-687-8683).
