At Play

Beneficial outdoor time for kids is as close as your own backyard, patio, or balcony! Creating natural play opportunities can be part of the solution to increasing the amount of time kids spend in the great outdoors for the health of their mind, body, and spirit. The National Wildlife Federation offers resources to help families create magical nature experiences.

Kids and Families Garden for Wildlife®

Help children create a wildlife habitat garden right outside their door and introduce them to the wonders of the natural world! Toddlers through teens can plant seeds, water, weed, and care for a garden—it’s an immediate way to make a real difference for the environment while spending time in nature.

Share in a Green Hour™

National Wildlife Federation’s Green Hour™ provides weekly tips and activities to get kids and families outside in nature every day. We encourage kids, parents, grandparents, educators, home caregivers, schools, childcare centers, park agencies, camps, and more to adopt a goal of one hour per day for children to play and learn outdoors in nature. Each activity can be completed in 15 or 30 minute segments, but it is best to spend a Green Hour™.
