$5 Billion Investment in Electric Vehicles Will ‘Supercharge’ Transition to Clean Cars

WASHINGTON, D.C. — The Biden Administration’s plan to invest nearly $5 billion in electric vehicle charging stations and infrastructure will encourage Americans to go electric and help address one of the largest sources of carbon emissions and sources of air pollution in the United States.
“Cars and trucks are one of the most significant drivers of carbon emissions and harmful air pollution today. These investments, funded through the bipartisan Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act, are an important step to supercharge our necessary transition to electric vehicles and away from vehicles whose emissions threaten public health and the environment,” said Mustafa Santiago Ali, vice president for environmental justice, climate, and community revitalization at the National Wildlife Federation. “We will work with the Biden Administration to ensure these investments deliver for frontline and fenceline communities — and ensure electric vehicles are accessible and affordable for all.”
More than 100,000 people in the United States die prematurely from air pollution every year. Cars and trucks are one of the major sources of carbon emissions, nitrogen oxides and other dangerous particles ad pollutants.
