WASHINGTON, D.C. — Dr. Jalonne L. White-Newsome, the Council on Environmental Quality’s new senior director for environmental justice, will bring an important, renewed focus to the Biden Administration’s commitments to address environmental injustices. The National Wildlife Federation heralded the hiring of the Michigan native and pledged to work with her to realize the president’s vision for addressing the historic and enduring public health and environmental inequities afflicting frontline and fenceline communities nationwide.
“Dr. White-Newsome has been a leading champion in the environmental justice movement and will bring an important, renewed focus to the Biden Administration on addressing the enduring public health and environmental challenges facing frontline and fenceline communities,” said Mustafa Santiago Ali, vice president for environmental justice, climate, and community revitalization at the National Wildlife Federation. “The challenges facing Black, Latinx, Indigenous, Asian American and Pacific Islander communities — from the Gulf Coast to the Great Lakes and Appalachia to the Southwest — are immense. We look forward to working with her, Chair Brenda Mallory, and the White House to transform the president’s commitments into concerted and authentic solutions on the ground.”
