Increased Funds for Pacific Islands Crucial to Combat Climate Change

WASHINGTON, D.C. (July 13, 2022) — The Biden Administration’s commitment to triple funding for Pacific Islands to reduce emissions and build resilience against climate change is a crucial step for increasingly threatened island ecosystems that face disastrous consequences from the growing climate crisis.

“Pacific Islands urgently need assistance to combat the increasingly dire consequences of climate change. These island nations are not to blame for the climate crisis, but they are the first to face existential threats and now risk becoming uninhabitable. The Biden Administration’s commitment to providing more funding will allow for these islands and their citizens to better plan for their future,” said Barbara Bramble, vice president of international conservation and corporate strategies for the National Wildlife Federation. “Congress should support the administration’s proposal and do its part to helping protect all who inhabit these islands.”
