Inflation Reduction Act ‘Historic Investment’ in Climate, Wildlife

‘The Inflation Reduction Act is a Historic Leap Forward on Climate Action, but it is a Floor, Not a Ceiling’

WASHINGTON, D.C. —  The Inflation Reduction Act, the largest action by the United States to confront the climate crisis and lower emissions in decades, will supercharge U.S. leadership on clean energy and harness the power of nature. The National Wildlife Federation celebrated its passage in the U.S. House of Representatives and urged Congress to build on its successes, including refocusing on environmental justice and addressing the wildlife crisis.

“This summer, we have seen the impact of the worsening climate crisis across the globe. The Inflation Reduction Act is an historic investment in the fight against climate change at a moment when we have no time to lose,” said Collin O’Mara, president and CEO of the National Wildlife Federation. “This bill will ensure our clean energy future is Made in America and achieves true energy independence, while lowering costs, creating good jobs, and reducing pollution in every community across the nation.

“The Inflation Reduction Act is a historic leap forward on climate action, but it is a floor and not a ceiling. Congress now needs to refocus and recommit itself to addressing the injustices that plague frontline, rural, and historically ignored communities by passing the Environmental Justice for All Act. It also needs to act on the wildlife crisis by passing the Recovering America’s Wildlife Act.”

The Inflation Reduction Act includes crucial investments in environmental justice, climate-smart agriculture, coastal resilience, and emissions reductions.
