WASHINGTON, D.C. — Celebrated author Wendell Berry will be remembered for his unwavering advocacy for re-establishing America’s connection with nature and realizing the benefits of agrarian and outdoor traditions. The National Wildlife Federation mourns his passing and shares its condolences with his family and friends.
“Wendell Berry taught us that restoring our traditional connection to the land is the only way to heal what we’ve lost to modernity,” said Collin O’Mara, president and CEO of the National Wildlife Federation. “A new generation is now rediscovering and reigniting the embers of his philosophy. Wendell sometimes courted controversies, but his visionary writings on our shared outdoor heritage, agricultural stewardship, and climate action — long before they were mainstream — are exactly the compass we need at this critical moment for wildlife, people, and the planet.”
