Washington, DC — Rep. Carlos Curbelo (R-Fla.) introduced legislation today that proposes an escalating tax on carbon pollution from major emitters. The bill, which the National Wildlife Federation heralded as “bold,” comes as other lawmakers from Curbelo’s party continue to deny that climate change is happening or that it is due to carbon emissions.
In response, National Wildlife Federation President and CEO Collin O’Mara issued the following statement:
“Communities and wildlife across America are experiencing devastating impacts from climate change — from more frequent extreme storms to prolonged drought and record wildfires. The National Wildlife Federation applauds Rep. Curbelo’s bold leadership of putting forth a climate plan that harnesses market forces to reduce carbon pollution and increase investments in clean energy. We urge Republicans and Democrats to work with Rep. Curbelo to enact bipartisan climate solutions that will stave off the most catastrophic impacts before it’s too late.”
