TRENTON, N.J. — New Jersey Gov. Phil Murphy’s commitment to invest in the country’s first port designed specifically for the construction of offshore wind turbines for use in projects off of New Jersey and across the Eastern Seaboard is a win for clean energy, job creation, regional economic growth and the protection of wildlife.
“Governor Murphy’s commitment of up to $300 million in an offshore wind port development has paved the way for the Garden State’s post-COVID economic recovery by creating high-quality jobs in an equitable and environmentally responsible manner,” said Curtis Fisher, Northeast regional executive director at the National Wildlife Federation. “This announcement is critical for New Jersey residents to receive all the benefits of a clean energy future including reduced pollution, reversing the climate crisis, economic recovery and protecting wildlife both in the Delaware Bay and our nationally treasured ocean resources.”
“New Jersey Audubon is excited to see Gov. Murphy’s continued leadership on offshore wind and the commitment to build any offshore wind port facilities in an environmentally responsible manner,” stated Eric Stiles, president and CEO of New Jersey Audubon, an affiliate of the National Wildlife Federation. “New Jersey Audubon, and other partners that we have worked with for decades to restore and protect the Delaware River and the Delaware Bay, look forward to partnering with the Murphy administration to make sure these precious resources are protected for generations to come. Gov. Murphy has pledged to responsibly develop offshore wind for our state, and we look forward to continuing to partner with his administration to advance this exciting new energy source while protecting our existing natural resources.”
