The Department of Education has released specifics on the Green Ribbon Schools awards program. This is an exciting opportunity for the more than 735 Eco-Schools in 45 states, plus the District of Columbia.
In order to receive the award, schools must be nominated by the Chief State Schools Officer (CSSO) in your state. We’d encourage you to contact your Chief State Schools Officer and offer to help them in the establishment of criteria and encourage them to nominate Eco-Schools in your state. Through the Green Ribbon Schools program, the U.S. Department of Education will recognize schools with high levels of achievement under three pillars:
The recognition award is part of the Department of Education's effort to identify and disseminate knowledge about practices proven to result in improved student engagement, academic achievement, graduation rates, and workforce preparedness.
